Do injectables like Botox hurt more than a bee sting?
You’re anxious, we get it. Who would want a needle pointed at their face, after all? But there’s really no need to panic – injectables definitely do NOT hurt more than a bee sting. If closing your eyes helps, by all means feel free to do so, but do keep in mind that great precautions are always taken with any sort of injectable to ensure that patients are as comfortable as possible.
With Botox injections, clinicians use a tiny, special needle so that the injections are not uncomfortable. Other injectables, such as our dermal fillers, Juvéderm and Revanesse,, are premixed with a local anesthetic to minimize discomfort. Though you might still feel some pressure as the needle is inserted (and sometimes a stinging sensation), the discomfort is definitely manageable, and nothing to hyperfocus on. Patients only experience a few seconds of mild discomfort as the Botox enters the injection site.
