WHICH OF THE TWO IS BEST FOR FINE LINES AND WRINKLES?
Both Botox and glycolic acid peels do two very different things. It really all comes down to your unique needs! In fact, they can be used in conjunction with one another for a multifaceted anti-aging approach.
We’re here to give you the lowdown on these two amazing treatments, both of which can get you to your goals effectively, and when in conjunction, quickly!
GLYCOLIC ACID PEELS: BEST FOR STATIC FINE LINES AND WRINKLES
Glycolic acid peels work wonders on fine lines and wrinkles. Glycolic acid smooths away static lines and wrinkles by removing the outer layers of the skin. In addition to minimizing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, glycolic acid peels reduce acne, eliminate blackheads, stimulate collagen production, even out skin tone, and fade hyperpigmentation.
Note that glycolic peels are not effective on dynamic wrinkles, or wrinkles caused by underlying muscles, such as when you laugh or frown.
BOTOX IS BEST FOR DYNAMIC WRINKLES
Chemical peels not getting you the results you want? Try Botox.
Botox is an injectable that improves dynamic wrinkles such as moderate to severe frown lines, forehead furrows, smoker’s lines, chin dimpling, and crow’s feet.
What are dynamic wrinkles?
These are the wrinkles that appear when you’re moving your face, such as when you frown or raise your eyebrows. Treatments like dermabrasion and chemical peels can’t treat dynamic wrinkles because they’re unable to relax the muscles that cause those wrinkles to appear in the first place.
Botox is a neurotoxin and works by attaching itself to nerve endings. Once this happens, the neurotransmitter responsible for triggering muscle contractions, called acetylcholine, can’t be released. To put it simply, Botox injections temporarily relax the facial muscles that underlie and cause wrinkles.
You’ll have to take certain precautions before undergoing a Botox treatment. Ten days before receiving Botox injections, you’ll be asked to refrain from taking products that contain aspirin, ibuprofen, and vitamin E – doing so will significantly reduce the chance of bruising following treatment.
